Day 30: But Only the 24th Post in the 30 Day Photo Challenge :(

So 30 days ago I decided to challenge myself to take a picture every day and post it. Although I didn't complete the challenge perfectly I did do pretty good :). I missed 6 days - but I am going to do those 6 days over the next 6 days (until Day 36) so I think that that's fair! :)

Day 30.
Fun Visits!

We had some visitors today - Kiera and Maddie came to visit while their Momma had an appointment. These girls are so fun - they fight like siblings but love each other and play nicely together too! Here they are taking care of their babies.

I couldn't resist posting a second photo - I love Pj's face here! Pure joy and excitement!! And Kiera just looks stunned. I have to admit that I had just made a very strange yelping noise to get their attention! Lol.

Baby Jesus, E, F, G...

We're learning our alphabet over here. Pj is getting pretty good but has made some adjustments of her own to our English Alphabet. I guess she figured there just wasn't enough praise happening in this new song, so she changed it to, "Baby Jesus, E, F, G...etc.". Its so cute that I have a hard time correcting it :). She loves to sing and can often be heard softly singing "Baby Jesus.." as she plays around the house. From the mouths of babes!

Day 29: My growing kiddos!

Time literally flies once you have children! I can't believe that I am the Momma to a 2 year old and a 4 month old. It feels like just yesterday that we found out that I was pregnant for the first time (boy, was that a strangely exciting and at the same time terrifying moment!). Now less than 3 short years later, here I am sitting on the ground of my living room writing this blog while Pj bops me on the head with her empty bottle asking for "moe" sticks her emtpy bottle down my shirt and asks "where bobble melk go Mommy?" with a mischievous grin (have I mentioned she is a crazy character lately?) and Big C snores on the couch behind me. This may be a very busy time of life for me (and I definitely NEVER get all the things on my list crossed off) but I have to say...I am LOVING life right now! I hope that time can slow down a bit because I am not ready for my kiddos to keep growing up!

4 months and 2 years! Wow!

Days 25, 26, and 27

This past weekend we went up north to the Faber Cottage to celebrate Mark's parent's 30th Wedding Anniversary! It was such an enjoyable weekend with the entire Lodder Clan. As such I wasn't able to post any pictures during the weekend but here is my catch-up! We had a great weekend of catching-up, playing the "Name Game", eating good food, and enjoying nature (walks and ATVs!).

5 years ago we also went to a cottage to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary - its amazing how much has changed in just 5 short years! There are now three married couples (then there was only one), 4 grandchildren and one on the way (then there was just one on the way), a new boyfriend (Leana was waaaay too young five years ago for that ;)!), and a beautiful young adult sister-in-law (who just five years ago was an adorable kiddo! Jenna STOP GROWING UP!!). God has definitely blessed the Lodder Clan!

Here are a few pictures that were snapped quickly over the weekend! I wish I had taken my camera out to take a picture of the picturesque cottage, lake and fall colours.

Uncle Tyler getting some Big C cuddles!

Beautiful Jenna (my dear sister-in law)

My sister-in-law Leana and her bf Jordan - reading (so often reading... ;)!).

My handsome man all geared up to do some ATVing!! He sure had fun and came back WET!

My handsome oldest nephew Kellan - what a cutie!!!

Big C!! I feel like I hardly saw my kiddos the whole weekend! They were so well taken care of (and cuddled) by all their aunts, uncles, and grandparents!

A quick shot of Pj as she ran past - she loves playing with her cousins and didn't have much time for picture taking! She also went on the ATV and LOVED it!!

Pj enjoying the rocking horse - we have one at home and she loves it too! Maybe horse riding lessons are in her future ;)!!

:) Adam and Lydia - I know Adam is mid-talking but Lydia just looks super cute ;) Can't wait to meet Baby #3 in a couple of months!! What a beautiful Momma this little one has!
Horrified that I didn't get any pictures of the celebrating couple!! Thankfully we are getting family pictures done with the Lodder Clan in a couple of weeks so there will be pictures of them then!!! It will also be nice to have a picture of the entire family - so many people, so many blessings!

4 Months old!

Big C is 4 months old!! I can't believe that he is already 1 third of a year old! Time is flying by!!! He has had a pretty eventful month. His biggest accomplishment is that he can ROLL! This is very different for Mommy and Daddy because his older sister never really mastered this particular skill. She rolled once or twice and then was content to just lie and observe. Big C uses his rolling as a way to get around and check things out. He loves to be a part of the action. He is the most content when he is around his Mommy and sister and is able to watch whatever they are doing. He is a big smiler and has a contagious giggle. He is very social and loves to talk to whomever is holding him. He is eating well and sleeping well. He sleeps throughout the night although every so often he is up for a 3:30am feed. This month Mommy and Daddy started re-doing his nursery (painting and sewing). We hope that he will be in his new room (and bed) before his 5th month birthday! We love having Big C around and find him to be a wonderful addition to our family. So thankful to God for him in our lives!!

She's TWO!!!

So almost 1 month ago Pj turned the big number two! I can't believe that I have a full-fledged toddler in my house. She has definitely left babyhood behind and is growing and maturing daily. As promised forever ago here is an update of Pj today!

Pj is a very lovable and delightful child. She has a very big smile and a contagious laugh/giggle. She loves "wunny" (funny) things and is quick to exclaim, "Daddy wunny" or "Mommy wunny" or "Payten wunny!". She is very ticklish and enjoys being tickled. If we are having a tickling fight she will often ask for "moe" when we are done or will place our hands on her belly and say "tiggle tiggle tiggle"! She loves to tickle us as well, but it more often feels like little scratches! One of her newest favourite things is doing "criss cross". She loves to receive it but also loves to do criss-cross to Mommy and Daddy. Pj is very affectionate. She is often willing to give kisses and big hugs. Sometimes she will refuse but it doesn't take long before she is running over to give out multiple hugs and kisses. She has a lot of concern for those who are hurt. If I say "Ow" during the day she is quick to run over to kiss "mommy's owies bedder". Last week we took Pj's Aunt Tara (who had just sprained her ankle) to do groceries. Pj was very concerned about Aunt Tara's hobbling and kept telling me to help Tara (I think she would have been most happy if I had just carried Tara around the store!)
Pj plays well. Right now some of her favourite things are colouring, playing outside (with sidewalk chalk, going for a walk, running down the hill, or kicking a soccer ball), doing puzzles, and playing with her many babies. She is a very good mother to her babies - they are all often nursed (while Mommy nurses Big C), have their diapers changed regularly, eat every meal with us (with their own filled plate and cup), go for long walks in her stroller or baby carrier, enjoy swinging in Big C's swing, and are tucked in for naps. She enjoys quiet time (on days that she isn't tired enough to nap) and likes to play with her special quiet time activities (magnet board(s), peg board(s) and lacing activities).
Pj sleeps relatively well - although in the past couple of months she has been less consistent. She typically is in bed by 8pm and wakes up around 8am. Lately she has been staying awake in her room playing quietly later (sometimes until midnight!) and waking up earlier (5am!). She naps almost every other day. When she naps its for about 1 hour (sometimes 2). She likes to sleep in the car during our afternoon errand drives (which I find adorable!).
Pj LOVES her little brother. She is quick to run to him when he starts crying. She likes to make sure that he always has his soother (sooder), blanket, elephant toy (elphant), and any other paraphernalia she might decide he needs. She cuddles (coodles) him and kisses him pretty much all the time! I have to be careful that she doesn't overdo her loving of him! She is pretty gentle but doesn't realize how little he really is. I think that she is very excited for when he is bigger and can actually play with her! Sometimes I find him covered in whatever toy she is playing with and she will be sitting playing right beside talking to him and telling him how to play :).
Pj is eating at her own booster chair at the "big people" table. She feeds herself relatively well but does make a mess. She doesn't eat a lot but some of her favourite foods are fruit (all fruit - apples, pears, oranges, grapes, berries), cookies & chips, vegetables (especially mushrooms??!), meat (chicken and pork), and yogurt. Her all time favourite thing is her "bubba melk". She still has one in the morning and one before bed at night (and sometimes one during the day depending on what is happening :)!). She does not like sandwiches (she'll eat the toppings off but leave the bread). She calls all drinks (other than milk) "appel joose"!
Pj can count to 14 and say most of her alphabet (especially the last half after 'm'). She has a very good memory and has memorized a lot of different songs: "Our God is so Great", "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", "Praise God", "Create in me a Clean Heart", "Jesus Loves Me", "The Alphabet Song", and "Holy, Holy, Holy". She also easily memorized her memory work from Sunday School (which she started the month she turned 2) - the first verse of Genesis. She knows lots of her colours but is most consistent with "lellow" and "green". She "likes" to watch hockey and knows to say "go leefs go!".
Pj has A LOT of words. Every day it feels like she is learning more words and using more complex sentence structure. Some of our favourite PJ phrases are "help you me?" (for both when she needs help and when she is offering help), "don waaaant it" (not really a fun one to hear but cute!), "huh?" (this one gets a little tiring all day every day), "peese" (so cute), "dank tu" (thank you - she's pretty good at saying this without prompting), and "bye ____________" (she says bye to our house, to the stores we visit, to people, to plants, to trees, to cars, to animals, and to food.
We can not imagine our lives without Pj. Although she definitely has taught us what toddler tantrums are (wow!) she has mostly taught us about love and fun! She brings so much laughter to our home and we are always entertained by her antics. She is starting to play silly (with silly faces and walks/dances) and she loves to make us laugh. We love her so much: for her tantrums, her lovableness, her silliness, and her character!

Selfie!!!

Pj - we pray that God will continue to guide your steps in all that you do. We already can see His love in your life in the way you hold onto songs of praise. Our hope for you is that you will know Him and His love and peace that transcends all understanding.

Day 24: Peace.

Peace. Its something that I crave. Its hard to obtain peace in this busy and hectic world, but I am slowly learning some tricks that help me. One of them is to take time and watch Big C sleep. He looks so peaceful and beautiful and I love to watch and cuddle him when he is sleeping (if I wasn't his Momma that would be creepy eh?). There is only a short period in life that we sleep with that much peace (at least in my life I have found that!) and I love being a part of his peaceful sleep. I don't want to forget this phase of my life - snuggling my littles. They can be super busy...but then they fall asleep in my arms and its the most peaceful feeling ever!

   Sweet dreams little man!

Day 23: Pumpkin Patch Pictures!

I know I just posted a blog about going to the pumpkin patch but I don't want to miss out on my Photography Challenge and I got so many beautiful pictures that I have more than enough to share with another post ;).

I love getting pictures of my beautiful girl! She is such a source of joy and enjoyment in our home. She's constantly busy and loves giggling. Its hard to get a good picture of her because she rarely stops moving, talking, or laughing long enough!

Katie and I did discover that it might actually be easier to take good pictures of each other's children because they seem to listen to their Aunties better than their Mommas! Here are some cute pictures I was able to snap of Atticus. The first one is pretty funny because his bald head disappears into the colour of the sky behind him - Katie should be able to fix it up with her Photoshop! Still a cute picture - even with his lobotomy ;). Lol!

Such a handsome nephew I have! I love spending time with him and watching him grow and develop (and watching his Momma grow and develop into a wonderful and loving Mother!).

We Went To a Pumpkin Patch!!

About 1 year ago I posted about going to Strom's Pumpkin Patch with Pj's cousins Kellan and Myles. At the time I had no idea that I would be returning to the pumpkin patch this year with an "almost 4 month" old baby! Just goes to show how much can change in one year! This year we went with Pj and Big C's cousin Atticus and his Momma (my dear sister Katie). It was an overcast day which was perfect for taking some pictures! I think I am getting better at this photography thing - practice makes perfect"ish".

Handsome little man Atticus - all my sisters and I seem to have baldies!! :)

Proof that Big C came to the pumpkin patch! He's just a little too small to be propped up against pumpkins for picture taking - We'll wait for next year ;).

Pj had a lot of fun running around and looking at all the "punkins". She helped me pick out 1 for carving and 2 for making puree for Big C (to be frozen until he starts to eat solids).

My beautiful Pj.

A little smirk from Big C - I think he was a little confused as to what we were doing outside on such a misty day!

She got a little sick of the picture taking - this was her response to my request for "a big smile".
Once again the rest of Strom's was closed but we didn't mind! We had a fun morning of picture taking and exploring. Pj really enjoyed running around and climbing on the pumpkins and the antique wagon that they had set up for picture opportunities. Its a beautiful farm! Maybe next year we'll actually make it out on a weekend when the rest of the farm is open - they have mazes and lots of activities for the kiddos (and I think Pj will be at an age where she will appreciate some of the other things the farm has to offer). Its always a fun time with Katie and Atticus and its was so nice to share this typical Autumn experience with them!

Day 19: [a little late...]

Well, I predicated I wouldn't be consistent! I have to admit that Thanksgiving Weekend got the best of me and in my business I forgot about my little Photo Challenge. The good thing about competing in a challenge put on by yourself is that you get to change the rules if you need to :). So, I am picking up today with posting some photos that were actually taken during this past busy weekend to bring me up-to-date!

Day 18: Early Morning Madness.
5 AM with a wide-awake daughter.
Instead of crying, I decided to make the best of the situation.
And so, we baked.

I saw this recipe on a new Mommy Blog that I started following recently: Three Little Crowns. Its an awesome blog from two fantastic Mommas with three adorable boys! These muffins are called Apple Cinnamon Muffins. They were D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! I had another Momma coming over later that day for a playdate so they were a fun treat to share! We also brought some over to our elderly neighbour and got to chat with him for a bit which was nice:). I was very productive this day...maybe 5am should become a more normal occurrence in the house!...yeah...right...!

Day 18: All the Colours!

Today, after the children's program at the library, we went to Len's Mill Store! I love walking through the aisles upon aisles of fabric in this store. If its wasn't for my lovely daughter inch-worming her way through the aisles behind me (yup, that's right, on her belly and everything) or checking the taste of different fabrics (she appears to be in a "lick everything" phase - this is one phase that I hope ends soon...preferably without a disease!) I could have spent hours there. I went because I had found a long forgotten gift card which I thought I could put to use in picking up some fabric for Big C's nursery. As it was, I forgot the gift card at home, but I still purchased some beautiful fabric.

Isn't that just delicious?! I am making Big C a quilt/blanket for his crib (I made lots of blankets for Pj before she was born...I'm feeling a little guilty that this is Big C's first blanket and he is 3.5 months old!). I am also making a triangle banner (trendy aren't I?) with his name to hang over his crib. And of course, I will attempt to make some sort of curtain and pillow covers to pull everything together. I am loving the bright and fun colours! Mark and I are hoping to paint his nursery this weekend - I think that this is a lovely way to spend a long weekend (Mark might disagree...) And then hopefully I'll be able to finish up the room (hang everything, paint a book shelf, unpack some toys, etc) by the end of the month - we'll see if I am dreaming about this timeline! My big hope is that by some point in November Big C will be sleeping in his own room. I'm ready to start getting a more solid night of sleep without waking up from his random gurgles and snorts. He is a LOUD sleeper! Better pull out my sewing machine and get started in order to make this transition a reality!

Day 17: Tummy Time!!

I know, I know. I have missed the last two days of my 30 Day Photo Challenge :(. I fell asleep on the couch both nights! I guess I am just one tired Momma! To make up for my sleepiness I will add two days to the end of my challenge (sounds fair to me!).

I am the worst when it comes to giving my babes tummy time. I felt with Pj, and again with Big C, that they were just too little during their first couple of months of life. They both cried and looked so uncomfortable that I always gave in and put them on their backs. I (all of a sudden) seem to remember tummy time when my babes turn 3 months. Tummy time is super important for a baby's muscle and mental development! So when both Pj and Big C turned 3 months I started implementing more regular tummy time. It looks to me that Big C is pretty strong and looking pretty comfortable on his tummy so I don't think I did anything negative by delaying his tummy time practice by a couple of months :). He is getting so big and strong...I already am missing my little baby (time for Baby #3?? Haha! Mark will have a heart attack when he reads that!). I love the newborn stage...when they are all new and cuddly. I also love this stage though - the growing and exploring stage. Now, just take a look at this picture - isn't he one handsome little man?!?! Lol! Also, take note of the ever present big blob of drool. He is one 'drooly' baby! We tried to give him Pj's amber necklace for the drool (and inevitable teething that will be happening any week now) but Pj noticed and had a minor major meltdown over the loss of her necklace! I guess I'll be making a trip to the local Diaper Daze to pick up another one! I found that the necklace worked miracles on Pj and I am not willing to go through Big C's teething/drooling stage without one!

Day 14: Its becoming a home!

We moved into our new house this past July. It is an old(er) townhouse in the city of Guelph. It actually is the first condominium that was built in Centre Wellington! I pretty much fell in love right away. Its a town house but (I think) it has character. The neighbourhood felt cozy and was very close to a lot of amenities (I can walk to get groceries!). The house was in pretty good shape - it just needed a little bit of paint and some other little touch-ups. We have been busy and we are getting things done slowly but surely. Pj's room was finished at the end of Summer and in September we worked on the living room (new tv stand, curtains up, etc). This past weekend we updated the light fixtures in the dining room and kitchen. Yay! The old kitchen light fixture used to be white but had turned yellow with grease, smoke, and age. The dining room light fixture was small and didn't give off good light. It was definitely not a statement piece;)! Here is a picture of my dining room (I really should say dining space as its just an extension of our living area). Its is coming along - we still need to hang up our wedding text barn board sign, get some bar stools (another DIY perhaps?!), paint the wooden counter top white, and paint the ceiling around the new light fixture (and I am sure I will think of a couple more things!).

Hmmm, kind of looks a little boring! But that light fixture - what a beaut! :) I think the room will look a little better once that sign is up! No matter what, its a wonderful place for us to sit and enjoy our family dinners :) (homemade by me of course;) hehe).

Day 13: My Favourites!

Today I am reminded of my favourite blessings. Thanking God for these three every day :).

Pj is blurry because she NEVER stops moving :). Love them all!

Day 12: Friend!

Day 12.
Today was a good day.
Why?
This is why :).

Enough said! There is nothing better than spending a day with this beautiful woman! Love her:).

Kind Words

Yesterday was a good day. It was a fun day. I took PJ to a library program and met up with a mom from church and her daughter (same age as PJ!). When we arrived PJ took one look at the room full of people and said "home now Mommy". :) Such a social little girl I am raising! After some encouragement and promising that I wasn't going anywhere we were able to join in the circle. PJ joined in as much as she could from my lap. She stared at (observed) the other kids and might have cracked a smile or two. She did enjoy the craft time and liked colouring and placing stickers on a pre-cut teddy bear. Afterwards we played in the children's play area which she enjoyed more - she can play without having to interact with anyone else. I think we'll keep joining in on this program so that she can get more familiar with other children and maybe break out of her shell a little bit.
After the library program we headed to Target. Did I need anything from Target? No. I just didn't want to head back to my house with laundry piled all over the main floor (at least it was sorted and half folded on my coffee table!), dishes all over my counter, floors needing a good sweep/vacuum (how does dirt grow on my floors?), and PJ's dinner from last night still on the table. Yes, I was avoiding the inevitable. Never mind it was close to lunch time and I should have been heading home to feed PJ. Instead I fed her a cookie from Starbucks to tie her over and walked around Target for an hour. I have to admit I was feeling a little guilty and a little like I wasn't the best Momma out there. As we chatted while we walked the aisles I noticed that PJ's language was getting better and better. As she is able to communicate more with me she is becoming a little more patient and not throwing as many tantrums (note: as many - there are still tantrums!). In the middle of our conversation another customer approached me and asked if she could interrupt us for a second.
A million worries flew threw my head...what was she going to complain to me about? Were PJ and I being too loud in the store? Did PJ leave a mess as she was inspecting something in one of the aisles? Did the customer notice that I had placed a toy back in the wrong area when PJ wasn't looking? Did the customer disapprove of how I was walking my cart with PJ perched on the handle? Did she know about the state of my house and think that I should head home and deal with it? Did she wonder why I was walking around Target at 12:30 instead of feeding my babies? You may laugh but more than one of these things has been spoken to me while I have walked through various stores in the past two years since PJ's arrival. These comments do nothing to make me feel more successful or sure of myself as a Momma. I am a people-pleaser and misguided or judgemental comments bother me so much! They sit with me and eat me up. When we were little I doubt that our parents received many comments like these from strangers - we seem to have entered a period of time where people are more than willing to state their opinions or step in even if not asked. I am sure that these comments are meant in a helpful way...but they do more to hurt a struggling Momma than help.
(Maybe I am being a little melodramatic and judgmental in my opinion of these comments from strangers. I mean, if I am doing something dangerous (which I would hopefully never knowingly do as I love my kiddos) than yes, I guess I do hope someone would say something. But telling me that my 2 year old is too loud in a grocery store isn't something I can change or something that she should have to change - she is a growing vibrant young lady. She should be allowed to have fun. Have you ever had anyone say something to you that made you feel 2 ft. tall? Do you disagree with my opinion on an overly opinionated society?)
Anyways I digress, all these thoughts quickly flew through my mind as I steeled myself against some negative statement or other on the way I was Momma-ing my kiddos when the customer smiled and said, "I just wanted to let you know that you are an excellent Mother to your children. You validate your daughter in everything. Good job!". I wanted to hug her. In this world of blogs, instagram, and random comments from strangers telling me that maybe I am not doing a good enough job as a Momma, these words made me stand a little straighter and not dread heading home and continuing my job as stay-at-home Momma to PJ and Big C. So, thank you random lady for your uplifting and encouraging words. They did more for this Momma than you will ever know!

  Love me my kiddos!!

Day 11: "I love you"

Day 11.
This girl.
So much love.

Here she is colouring...although if you were to ask her she would tell you that she is, in fact, "writing" and what is she writing? She is writing "I love you" over and over and over again:). Its so cute. She sits quietly colouring away and saying softly "I love you", "I love you", "I love you". She is so quick to say "I love you" to her Mommy, Daddy and Big C. She says it quite spontaneously too! She'll just walk up to me and say it! Its heart breaking :). She has such a loving and caring heart. Its been amazing to watch that heart grow and develop. So. Much. Love.

Ps. As I write this she is showing Big C how to sleep! Never mind the fact that its 11:30pm and she is awake too. I could be in for a long night;). Although, she just won and is heading to my bed so we might get some sleep - albeit in a squished bed. Might be time to king size our bed ;)!

Day 10: Please, Please, Please Go to Sleep!

Day 10.
10 o'clock pm.
This is us. (Pardon the poor picture quality - my house is too dark!).

Yup. Making faces for the camera...because really...why would a 2 year old need to be in bed at 10pm? PJ has been fighting a "normal" sleep schedule for a bit now. I am a little bit at my wit's end! Lately she has been refusing to go to sleep before 10pm. She will then wake up around 3am (yikes!) and play for an hour before going back to sleep until 8am. She is napping in the afternoon...often for over 2 hours. If I try to wake her up during naptime (in the hope that she will fall asleep earlier at night) she has a hard time waking up and will just sit and cry for almost an hour (or she will sit and cry until she falls back to sleep). I don't know how to get her to sleep better. I have been told that waking her up earlier in the morning might help and we have tried that but it didn't work out the way I was hoping - instead she napped in the afternoon for almost 4 hours and was up late again at night. We bring her to bed at about 7:30 but she will play for the next 3ish hours in her room until she falls asleep. She's not difficult...just not well scheduled :). As I write this I notice that there are finally no noises coming from her room. Has she finally decided to fall asleep? Here's hoping! Does anyone have any advice for helping me get my toddler to fall a sleep? It would be so much appreciated!

Ps. Isn't her "funny" face so cute?! So much love for this kiddo and her spunky character!
